Mercotrade Agência Marítima Ltda. (Mercotrade Shipping Agency Ltd.), founded in 1994, is a Brazilian shipping agency and freight forwarder working to satisfy best the individual needs of international shipping customers and principals by providing a variety of services at Brazilian ports.

Mercotrade is a full subsidiary of the Chile-based Ultramar Group of Companies, founded in 1952. The Ultramar Group offers many services through independent offices and subsidiaries, such as general, port and husbanding agencies, towage, crew changes, stevedoring, inland container terminals, warehousing, storage and distribution in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.

Mercotrade also belongs to the Ultramar Network, which is an alliance of shipping agents, covering Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay, and to ULOG, a network of freight forwarders (NVOCC) covering worldwide locations.

Mercotrade represents shipping lines for dry and reefer containers, general cargoes, Ro-Ro and bulk, in trades from and to the Americas, Europe, the Middle and Far East, Asia and South Africa. The company was the Brazilian general agent for Sealand, Safmarine and Hapag-Lloyd, before those merged with or were taken over by other ship owners and opened their own offices in Brazil.

Mercotrade is currently representing the following services:

• Columbia Ship Management Ltd. for port agency services, including crew change;

• Höegh Autoliners for Ro-Ro services to the Middle and Far East, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand;

• U.A.S.C. services to and from the Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent;

• Ultragas for worldwide tanker transport of chemical products;

• Unigas International for port agency services, including crew change.

With the growing market segment of tramp shipping in Brazil, Mercotrade is expanding services with the expertise of a strong network to attend vessels calling any Brazilian port.

Mercotrade’s São Paulo office is the sales and customer service center. Santos office serves as a general port agent, as well as a finance, logistics, operations and documentation center, and a commercial representation in Itajai covers sales and services in the South of Brazil.
